Year-End Review: Drunk Driving, Parking, and a Lawsuit

As the end of the year approaches, it's a look back before welcoming 2012.

MADD:  Instead of honoring various police officers from around the area for locking up drunk drivers I think it is time for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers to start spending more time monitoring the local courts and being vocal when they find judges and prosecutors failing to actually convict people of drunk driving. Local judges and prosecutors are well known for giving themselves pats on the back claiming almost perfect conviction rates. In reality they hand out “no record” probation terms and reduce serious moving violations to defective equipment or illegal parking so drunk drivers end up with no points and no public record of drunk driving. Sugarplum and Other Fairies

An email exchange over the Sugarplum fairy leads to more questions than answers.

Sometimes I cannot keep my opinion to myself. I recently got hooked on the articles, Bill McClellan’s column and television news reports on the Sugarplum Fairy incident in St. Charles. I know this isn’t specifically about Chesterfield, but Sugarplum Fairies are part of us all.   Laura Coppinger for six years performed in the Old St. Charles business district as the Sugarplum Fairy. This year the city decided to hire Christmas performers as part time city employees instead of using a contract service. This meant they need to take a required city drug test.
