CVAC Liquor License Draws Opposition from Council Members

Connie Fults and Derek Grier voted against the license at a city council meeting last week, saying that it shouldn't be allowed for a facility that primarily serves underage youth.

Chesterfield has approved an additional liquor license for the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex over the objections of two city council members, who said alcohol shouldn’t be sold at a venue that attracts so many underage youth.  Council members Connie Fults and Derek Grier each voted against the license allowing the sale of wine at a meeting Feb. 20. The request passed 6-2 and is in addition to an existing license for the sale of 5 percent beer by the drink. “I have never voted for the liquor license down in the Valley and I don’t intend to change that course now,” Fults said in an explanation of her dissent prior to the vote. “I understand there are several tournaments that require that we have those refreshments available, but I’m …

I'd give kids more credit than you do. Many kids DON'T drink because of what they see adults doing (drinking too much), many kids DON'T drink because of the terrific DARE programs in the schools (which have suffered from budget cuts), and many kids DON'T drink because they're smarter than you think. Seven Minutes, Three Votes, then Meeting Adjourned

The Chesterfield City Council had what was likely its shortest meeting ever Monday night.

The Chesterfield City Council might have set a record at Monday night: Its meeting lasted less than seven minutes.  At the city council's agenda review meeting, which precedes the council meeting, members joked about the short agenda, saying it was the lightest they had ever seen. When asked, City Administrator Michael Herring said the shortest meeting he could remember lasted 11 minutes. It seemed all but certain that this meeting would be shorter. The meeting lasted 6 minutes, 57 seconds (according to Ward 3 Councilman Randy Logan's watch). Here's what members unanimously approved without much discussion:
