Traffic Alert: Lanes Closing on I-270 Next Week

Missouri Department of Transportation reports on the St. Louis work zones for March 14 - 20.

Up to two lanes will be closed on southbound Interstate 270 overnight Monday through Wednesday between Manchester Road and I-44 as part of a widening project. Overnight closures of various ramps and lanes will occur on the Poplar Street Bridge in downtown St. Louis Sunday through Wednesday evening. Two entrance ramps to I-70 from Mid Rivers Mall Drive will close beginning Monday, March 18, weather permitting. The loop ramp from northbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive to westbound I-70, and the loop ramp from southbound Mid Rivers Mall Drive to eastbound I-70 will close. Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

Truck Fire in Firestone Parking Lot Captured on Video

A Chesterfield resident sent Patch video footage of a truck that caught on fire near the intersection of Manchester Road and Highway 141.

Editor's Note: This video contains some strong language. Chesterfield resident Ian Nelson captured a surprising video Saturday night when he drove by what appeared to be a truck that had become engulfed in flames in Manchester.  West County EMS and Fire Protection District crews tells Patch, they received the call just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday of the fire at 14266 Manchester Road. The arrived at the Firestone near the intersection of Highway 141 and Manchester Road to find this gray pickup truck fully engulfed in flames. Expect Nearly 2 Years Construction On I-270 Beginning April

MoDOT to spend $11.6M on two miles near Chesterfield, to aid daily jam-ups.

Residents turned out to The Lodge Des Peres Monday to learn more about an $11.6 million road construction project to widen Interstate 270 and relieve congestion in St. Louis County at a traffic-jam hotspot. The project, headed by Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will: Contractors begin work in April and should finish by December 2013. The segment of highway carries 160,000 vehicles per day, according to Project Manager Thomas Evers with MoDOT. He said lane closures will be needed for the work, but that would be done during non-peak hours, most-likely at night. “The basic need for the project is that we have backups during every morning and afternoon rush hours,” he said. “That traffic is not going to decrease in time, so we …

MoDOT Unveils Plans to Expand I-270 in West County

A public meeting on Monday, Jan. 30 will reveal the preliminary construction plans and possible impact of the project.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will unveil plans for widening Interstate-270, at a public meeting next week. The meeting will be Monday Jan. 30, 4-7 p.m., at the The Lodge Des Peres, 1050 Des Peres Road, Des Peres, 63131. "The meeting is to discuss a project to improve the flow of traffic on Interstate 270 between Interstate 44 and Manchester Road by constructing MoDOT stated in a news release Monday. "Because of roadway restrictions, such as railroad bridges, this will mean narrowing all through lanes to 11 feet wide, similar to what was done on I-44 during the I-64 reconstruction." MoDOT said crews will try to keep full shoulders along I-270 once the project is complete. Construction on the expansion project is set to begin …
