Marquette Senior Signs to Play Golf for University of Akron

Zach Gollwitzer was named to All-State and All-Metro teams during his junior year.

Marquette senior Zach Gollwitzer signed a letter of intent to play men’s golf Nov. 14. He will play for the University of Akron. Gollwitzer has been a 4-year member of the varsity team at Marquette. His honors include being All-State and All-Metro his junior year, All-Suburban West Conference for three years, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Athlete of the Week during his junior year. Zach tied for 3rd place in the MSHSAA State Tournament as a junior and tied for 27th place as a sophomore in the same tournament.

Crop of Marquette Seniors Make Commended Scholars List

Ten of the 40 Rockwood School District high school seniors just named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program attend Marquette High School in Chesterfield.

Marquette High School is home to 10 seniors named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Rockwood School District had 40 such seniors named in all. This year's recipients include: Brennon Bastean, Marquette High School Ryan Blake, Marquette High School Emily Eggmann, Marquette High School Logan Jardine, Marquette High School Kiersten Kuc, Marquette High School Daniel Mannion, Marquette High School Dominick Rodriguez, Marquette High School Kevin Shi, Marquette High School Danielle Whitaker, Marquette High School Karen Zhang, Marquette High School Commended students represent some of the most academically talented students in the nation, according to a Rockwood announcement. Marquette High (Slightly) Bucks Enrollment Trend in Rockwood

Each year, Rockwood reports its official enrollment during this time, after the end of September. Marquette and Eureka high's student base went up, while Lafayette High's went down.

Marquette High School in Chesterfield bucked the trend—if only slightly—among Rockwood School District's latest final enrollment numbers. While the district itself saw declining enrollment numbers, Marquette's September enrollment in the 2012-13 school year is 2,209, up from 2,199 the previous year—or 10 students. Rockwood's official student enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year is 21,951. This count is 250 students fewer than 2011-2012’s official enrollment count of 22,201 students.  Rockwood chief financial and legislative affairs officer Tim Rooney said the district anticipated a lower student enrollment for 2012-2013. 7 Marquette Students Are Among Rockwood's National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Twenty-five new Rockwood School District seniors achieved Semifinalist standing in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a district announcement.  Marquette High School recipients include: About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship competition when they took the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Rockwood Schools' Graduates Earn Millions in Scholarships

Funding aimed at college next fall.

More than 1,730 Rockwood District high school students in the Class of 2012 have acquired more than $34.5 million in scholarship funds. “We are proud of what these students have achieved and we look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments,” Rockwood Superintendent Bruce Borchers said.  The graduating seniors will be honored by the Rockwood School District during ceremonies May 17 - May 24. Marquette High School is located in Chesterfield and is part of the Rockwood School District. Marquette High Serves One Up for William Woods

Rebekah Roe is en route to continue her volleyball career at William Woods University.

Marquette High School senior Rebekah Roe signed a letter of intent this week to play volleyball at William Woods University in Fulton. Roe has been a starter on the Mustangs' girls varsity team the last two seasons, playing at libero position, and was cited by Rockwood Athletic Director Linneman as a standout player. "She has been a key member of the Marquette team and integral to the squad’s success," Linneman said in a news release. Roe also has played on the High Performance club volleyball team.

Heads Held High as Marquette Finishes Fourth at Show-Me Showdown

Columbia, MO—Even grown men are allowed to cry. Marquette seniors Mitchell Cox and Ryan Rosburg were misty-eyed, facing the glare of the media, moments after dropping their second-consecutive game at the Shoe-Me Showdown, the state championships at Mizzou Arena here. The Mustang fell behind and lost the third place game to Lee’s Summit West, 53-41. They lost the semifinal game to Nixa Thursday night, 59-42. Shane Matzen, their coach was not crestfallen. “I’ve coached 20 years, dreaming of being here all that time. Fourth annual Pun-Off cracks some smiles.

Marquette High School's wordplay competition Thursday proved to be an afternoon filled with clever jokes, innuendo and an engaged student body. Simply put, it was a whole lot of pun. The student attendees at the event in the school auditorium laughed, cheered, booed and shuddered—all in the spirit of the afternoon—at puns that ranged from witty to dumbfounding and everything in between. Marquette High School answers this ever-lingering question with the popular musical, Grease. Grease opened on Broadway in 1972 and closed in 1980, running for over 3,300 performances. This high-energy show, at the time, was the longest running Broadway show. The well known story of the Thunderbirds and Pink Ladies has been incorporated into a famous feature film in 1978 that has become the cult classic that it is today.
