In the new Missouri system, every team has a shot at a state title. Here's when teams with Creve Coeur ties play, starting Thursday.

High school football coaches have been busy cramming about prospective opponents over the weekend. They left the field Friday and Saturday afternoon, still not quite sure who they'd be playing this week in the new state football playoff system that now includes the "district system" used in other sports, with seeding thanks to a point differential that made every score count. Saturday evening, that schedule was released. Here's how it all will start shaking out: Thursday Friday You can search the entire playoff bracket by going to the Missouri State High School Activities Association website. Chesterfield Patch will be covering the Marquette vs. Oakville game Friday, check Facebook for immediate results with a follow-up story posted here …

South-West Stars Rally For Key SLABA Tourney Win Over Meramec Valley

Down 7-1, the Stars storm back for an 18-8 win to advance to the SLABA consolation semifinals.

HAZELWOOD–While heading out to the third-base coach’s box before the bottom of the second inning, South-West Stars coach Grayling Tobias joked that he hoped his team would get “a couple more runs,” so a reporter covering the game would have more interesting material. The Stars were trailing 7-1 to a hot-hitting Meramec Valley Travelers team at the time, and were already using their third pitcher in the game. There was little reason to believe South-West would be able to come back. Well, somebody forgot to tell that to the Stars as they went on a serious hitting and scoring binge throughout the next three innings, racking up 17 total hits on their way to a stunning 18-8 comeback win over the Travelers at the Hazelwood Sports Complex. The …

Parkway West Girls Shine as Soccer Showcase Event Begins

Parkway West beats Waterford Union from Wisconsin 3-0 to open the 2011 Parkway College Showcase.

Despite a scoreless first half, Parkway West never looked to be in doubt as the Longhorns worked their way to a three-goal victory on Friday against Wisconsin's Waterford Union High School. The game was one of five that opened this weekend's 2011 Parkway West St. Louis College Showcase. Parkway senior Meghan Dolan of Ballwin, who's bound for Lynn University next year on a soccer scholarship, didn't face many shots during the game's first half. That's why coach Annie Wayland assigned the well-rounded Dolan to play forward in the second half, which resulted in a well-placed but unlikely goal that broke down the Waterford defense. To Wayland's delight, it was the first of three goals that fulfilled her explicit halftime instructions to "get …

Parkway West Hopes Pitching Can Provide Anchor

The Longhorns’ success this season will depend largely on the pitching prowess of seniors Logan Hershenow and Carter Smith.

In his first year, Jeffrey Chazen led the Parkway West baseball team to a respectable 12-11 mark in the 2010 season. If his pitchers step up, the 2011 season could mark another major step forward for the Longhorns. Parkway West is 4-4 after its 6-0 loss to St. Charles last Saturday. The Longhorns will host Parkway South at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, and then play at Timberland at 4:15 Friday. The Longhorns' 5-2 record in Suburban South Conference play last season left them in a three-way tie with Eureka and Parkway North for second place, behind league champion Summit (6-1). “Our pitching needs to be more consistent, along with our defense. We really have emphasized the notion of consistent play all year. We want to steadily improve throughout the…
