Patch Participates in National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Friday

Your local Patch site will go dark during the national observance for the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Patch sites around America, including yours, will take part in a National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Friday. At that hour, the website will go blank for 5 minutes. The page will be replaced by a message noting the National Moment of Silence, and a link will direct viewers to a website that explains ways you can join the campaign to help the people of Sandy Hook. After 5 minutes, the website operation will return to normal.  The Moment of Silence coincides with one across social media sites. Over 100,000 people have pledged not to tweet or post to Facebook, reports TechCrunch, including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Britney Spears, Suze Orman, Tyler Florence, Goldie Hawn, and Joe Montana. Patch Editors Volunteer at St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Find out how you can help the nursery, or send your own ideas of places for Patchers to volunteer.

Patch editors in the St. Louis area cleaned, organized, sorted, wiped, hugged and played at the St. Charles location for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery. The Crisis Nursery's mission is to prevent child abuse by providing temporary housing and care for young children in order to give their parents and caretakers the space and time needed to resolve crisis.  Patch editors organized and sanitized toys, cleaned high chairs and walls, put away summer clothes, put babies to sleep and played with the little ones. See previous story: Patch Volunteers Today at Crisis Nursery We volunteer as part of our coverage with a program called "Give 5," through which we donate advertising space to charitable organizations and contribute our own time as …

10 Most Read in St. Louis: Decapitated Baby, Hurricane Sandy, Food Trucks in St. Charles and More

Check out the 10 most read stories on Missouri Patch sites for the month of October.

1. Lawsuit Claims Baby Was Decapitated During Delivery at Mercy Sometimes, the news can be tragic. That was certainly the case in this report from Creve Coeur Patch.  According to a 10-count complaint filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court, a local couple claimed that doctors involved with the delivery of their baby coerced them into a vaginal delivery against their wishes and then hid the fact that their baby had been decapitated during the delivery process. The same story, posted on Florissant Patch (Florissant Couple Files Lawsuit, Claims Baby Was Decapitated in Delivery), also ranked among the most read stories in Missouri Patch. - - - - -  2. What Time is Tonight’s Obama v. Romney Presidential Debate? Patch has gone all-in this …

Not that I want the details but what was your purpose in leading with the "decapitated baby" story? No details provided and just a sensational headline that we're left to conjure up a mental image of? Brian, I see from your profile that you "stumbled" into journalism. Maybe it's time to stumble back out.   more ›

Did You Meet Patch At The 2012 St. Louis Art Fair?

The Patch booth was a popular one at the annual event in Clayton.

Despite severe weather that forced organizers to cancel Friday night festivities at the 2012 St. Louis Art Fair, thousands of people still visited the streets of Clayton Saturday and Sunday to browse, buy and admire plenty of art. We're also thrilled that so many of you made the time to stop by the Patch booth too. We were giving away goodies, signing up people for our daily newsletter and telling you how with Patch, you don't just read the news, you can use the free tools Patch offers to help spread the word about what matters to you. Since some of you may be opening your Patch newsletter for the first time, we thought it would be good to offer up some quick links to help get you started:   There's a lot more to do here on Patch, but …

It's College Colors Day: Show Us Your Fan Photos!

Are you a Mizzou fan? College Colors Day is an annual day where people across the country show their support for their favorite college by wearing its colors.

Mizzou? SLU? Lindenwood? Which college or university lays claim to having the most fans in St. Louis?  Today is College Colors Day, an annual celebration, according to its website, dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across America to wear apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day. Here at Patch, we're using the day to find out which higher education establishment has the most support in the St. Louis-community. I, myself, am a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale—go Salukis!—but am also a huge fan of Mizzou. What about you? Upload a photo of you, your family, your dog—whatever—displaying your college colors.   When …

Another collection of pathetic human beings. Meth, domestic assault, rape. How do people get this way? Why does an adult male sexually abuse an 8 year old child? What in the world is the drive? I'd love to know the average IQ's of those posted here. 70 is considered borderline retarded. Anyway, looks like St. Charles law enforcement was quite busy this week.   more ›

Bill, I seem to consume your every thought as much as you mention me, it is frightening really, and brings me some consternation and concern that a TRO might be in order, but that aside, perhaps you might re-read my statements to which you refer. I was referring to the "Jeffco Most Wanted" piece. Surely you can understand that there is a substantive difference between the public interest in …   more ›
