Pi Pizza Food Truck to End Service July 31

The Pi truck was one of the first food trucks in the St. Louis area.

Pi Restaurants will discontinue regular operations for its food truck service in the St. Louiis area on Tuesday, July 31, according to the Pi Pizza web site.  Pi has locations in the Delmar Loop, Kirkwood, the Central West End, Chesterfield and a new location in the Merchantile Exchange in downtown St. Louis. The statement on Pi's web site reads as follows: July 31st, 2012 will be the last day of regular operations for both our St. Louis and Washington, DC trucks. We are thrilled to have led the way in STL food truck scene, scouting out the most popular spots for trucks in St. Louis City. We’ve enjoyed bringing our Pi to guests who couldn’t otherwise enjoy Pi in our full-service restaurants during their lunch hour. But now we want to re-…

Pi Pizzeria Goes Green, With Green Dining Alliance

Chesterfield's Pi Pizzeria joins a region-wide collection of environmentally forward restaurants.

With 2,000 restaurants in St. Louis—dozens in Chesterfield alone—diners have the luxury of choosing restaurants that reflect their values—like sustainability and environmentalism. Pi Pizzeria in Chesterfield (and its Central West End and University City restaurants) has gone all green. Chesterfield Pi said their recycled interior decor and a composting program are just two ways they are environmentally friendly. They've already joined a new program called the Green Dining Alliance which partners green advocates with restaurants to reduce environmental impact. Watch for a review and interview with Chesterfield Pi later today. Restaurants with high commitments to sustainability become certified alliance members and are graded on a four-star …

Which Pizza Pie Takes the Cake?

This week, we compare pizza from three West County restaurants.

Pizza is versatile and ubiquitous, seen in many restaurants in West County. It is versatile because it can have a variety of crusts, sauces, toppings and cheeses. Some like the Chicago deep dish or St. Louis-style thin crust with provel cheese, and others swear by New York-style pizza with a thick foldable crust and real mozzarella cheese. East Coast Pizza 17304 Chesterfield Airport Rd., Chesterfield As a New Yorker, walking into East Coast Pizza was like walking into a pizza shop at home. The red pepper flakes on the table and the garlic powder reminded me of going to eat pizza with my dad. The crust was crisp and flavorful, but foldable. There is something about the brick they cook it on that makes this pizza special. The sauce, …

I agree, Faracci's & Fortel's (I go to the one at Clayton & Kehr's Mill) are outstanding. Also, there is a new pizza restaurant in Ballwin, Pizza Pizza on Manchester Rd. They just had a write up in West News Magazine where it mentioned that they are now offering Pide (a Turkish-style pizza). Sounded good; will have to head back there soon to try this.   more ›

Pizza Place Is in Your Face Against St. Louis Pizza

A recent trip to a Chesterfield City Council meeting turned my attention to St. Louis-style pizza.

Chesterfield City Council meetings can be so darn civilized. That isn’t good if you are trying to write opinion columns about local issues.  I attended the June city council meeting hoping there might be some controversy, but I was disappointed. The meeting was over in 17 minutes. It would have been over in 15 minutes, but the Pledge of Allegiance went long. But, one piece of legislation that was approved in less than a minute got my attention. A liquor license was issued to the Pi Pizzeria joint in the Baxter Bend Shopping Center.   The license was technically issued to Provel Free, LLC, the corporate owner of the Pi restaurants. Not serving St. Louis-style pizzas is one thing. Having the wait staff wear T-shirts that have the word “…

East Coast Pizza Brings A Taste Of New York City To Chesterfield

David Moreno opened the family pizza joint in 2002 with authentic recipes and techniques.

Living in New York City for ten years is like living a lifetime somewhere else. That's why I'll always think of myself as a native New Yorker. And if there's one thing a New Yorker knows, it's New York pizza. I'm not knocking the local pizza. Sometimes nothing but a St. Louis style pie will do, cut into squares and dripping with St. Louis' own provel cheese. I wouldn't hesitate to eat Elicia's pizza on the city's south side, or Pointers in Richmond Heights or lots of other places, and I'm sure you have your favorites too. When I heard East Coast Pizza in Chesterfield claims to serve New York pizza by the slice, I was compelled to investigate. I mean, come on, New York pizza in Chesterfield? Fuhgeddaboudit. It would be like finding the …
