Peanut Butter Plant to Starbucks, Whole Foods Shut Down by FDA

The Sunland Inc. plant that distributes products to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target and others is linked to Salmonella contamination that made at least 41 people ill in 20 states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The plant supplies peanut butter products to stores, restaurants and retailers like Starbucks, which has two locations in Chesterfield in Chesterfield Valley and on Clarkson Road, and Whole Foods, which has a location just south of Chesterfield in Town and Country. WARNING: Radioactive Tissue Boxes Sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond

This is no joke. State health officials warn that tissue boxes containing a radioactive substance have been issued to at least one St. Louis area store.

Late Friday, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) warned that metal tissue box covers delivered to Bed, Bath and Beyond retail stores throughout the U.S. may contain cobalt-60, a radioactive substance. Health officials confirm they were sent to the Sunset Hills Bed, Bath and Beyond store, but not the store in Manchester, near Highway 141. Customers who purchased the covers are advised to return them to the store for a refund. More information and a photo are available on the store's website. Half the Nation May Have Recalled Smucker's Peanut Butter On Its Shelves

Missouri is included in the 24 states and Washington, DC shipped peanut butter possibly containing Salmonella, FDA said.

Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co. is voluntarily recalling 16-ounce jars of Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky, according to the Food and Drug Adminstration. The recall is to due to possible salmonella contamination. The peanut butter was distributed throughout 24 states and Washington, D.C., including Missouri—that's half the country. The jars in question would have been purchased between Nov. 8 and 17 and have a "best if used by" date of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012. They also contain the production codes 1307004 and 1308004. In the St. Louis area, Dierbergs Spokesperson Todd Vasel tells Patch all of the Dierbergs were alerted to the recall and have checked for the recalled peanut butter.
