Starbucks Offers New $1 Reusable Tumbler, but Good Luck Finding One

Both Chesterfield Starbucks locations sold out of the $1 reusable plastic cups withing days. The cups are part of an initiative by the coffee giant to reduce its waste.

In an effort to lesson the load of trash from disposable cups, Starbucks is now offering a new reusable tumbler, but Chesterfield residents may have are hard time getting a hold of one.  The $1 plastic cups started appearing in St. Louis area stores in the past week and have sold like, well, hot-coffee-cakes.  The Starbucks on Clarkson Road in Chesterfield reported receiving a shipment of the cups last Thursday that were gone by Saturday. More won't be arriving until next Thursday, Jan. 17, at the earliest. The situation was much the same at the store in Chesterfield Valley. Planet Earth Visits Central Park on Earth Day Celebration

Drive-thru recycle a hit of Earth Day activities.

Free recycling on Earth Day at Chesterfield's Central Park collected a parking lot full of huge televisions, and plenty of other stuff that residents emptied out from their car trunks Saturday. Saturday was the city's 21st celebration of Earth Day with recycling, entertainment at the city's amphitheater and vendors with goods made from recycled materials. One contributor said seeing all "that stuff" made him think about the next time he was tempted to buy something else—as though pausing to decide whether he really needed or wanted it. Chesterfield Patch spotted Councilman Randy Logan and one of his three daughters selecting a native Missouri tree or shrub to plant at home. FREE Recycling By Chesterfield in Dierbergs Parking Lot

This week, Aug. 13-21, the bins are open.

Chesterfield's city government provides its second of three recycling collections of the year, with drop-off bins in Dierbergs Market Place parking lot through Sunday.  The location is Baxter at Clarkson roads, 1730 Clarkson Road. There is no charge, but follow the guidelines about what works and what doesn't work for recycle. Single stream recycling guidelines Not: Accepting: Rinse and empty all containers before recycling. TEXTILE GUIDELINES  Not: Accepting: Place textiles in bags Box or bag shoes separately. The next opportunity to recycle for free with the City of Chesterfield is Oct. 22 - 30.
