EdgeWild Gets Strong Reviews Online

Reviewers praise the restaurant’s food and dessert but are less impressed by the noise and wine list.

Finding a quality, independently owned eatery among the abundance of chain restaurants in Chesterfield can be a challenge. “The biggest disappointment with Chesterfield over the years has been the lack of original, local restaurants,” said Aaron Lademann, who moved to the city from downtown Clayton. “Chesterfield is truly ‘chain-city, USA.’” But Lademann said that changed for him when he found EdgeWild, the new modern American restaurant and winery that promises a “wine country experience.” Lademann, along with hundreds of other diners, reviewed the restaurant online after opening in the Bahama Breeze site at Chesterfield Mall in November. Lademann ranked EdgeWild an 8.5 out of 10 in his review on Urbanspoon.  Here’s what other reviewers …

Great Gyros Go For The Gold—Is It Heroes or Jiros?

How is it said: Heroes or Jiros? Patch compares gyros from three West County restaurants.

Traditionally a gyro is made by placing pieces of meat on a vertical spit, which cooks as it turns. The meat is sliced vertically in thin strips. It's then served on warm pita bread topped with tomatoes, onions, lettuce and tzatziki or tahini sauce. In the United States, finding an establishment with a vertical spit is rare. Many restaurants buy the meat precooked and sliced, others make their own variations with different cooking methods. The ability to serve flavorful meat, delicious tzatziki sauce and generous toppings are what make a great gyro. Thai Sawadee Adds Spice And Flavor To Chesterfield

Under new ownership, Thai Sawadee keeps up the tradition of serving delicious Thai cuisine.

When I first met Susan and Chinnapong (Chin) Saicholpitak, they had just taken ownership of Thai Sawadee in Hilltown Village Center. The owner wanted to sell, and as longtime employees of the restaurant, they saw it as an opportunity for themselves and their young family. The Saicholpitak's intended to serve the same great Thai cuisine that had already made it popular among local Thai food enthusiasts, with a few new additions of their own. Having tasted the Lemon Grass soup—with its fresh basil, mushrooms and tender bits of chicken—I vowed to return to see if their other offerings featured the same brightness and rich, exotic flavors.  I went in for lunch and as before, the atmosphere of the restaurant had a calming effect. I sat at the …

Ay, Carumba! Lunch At Salina's Mexican At 100°F

Spicy food and hot weather go together like sipping margaritas on an exotic beach.

Only a crazy chili-head would think of eating Mexican food when the thermometer is topping 100°F, as it was early this week. Guilty as charged, but in my defense, I was hotter than a Mexican jumping bean and spicy Mexican cuisine sounded just right. Besides, my brain was addled by the unrelenting heat. Salina's Mexican Restaurant—located at 20 Clarkson Wilson Center, off Clarkson Road—looked inviting. The welcoming entrance is flanked by a wraparound porch with hanging plants and flowers, and I imagine it would be very pleasant if the weather were kinder. The interior—with its gray chairs and red tabletops—was less gaudy than some Mexican joints but had enough of the typical flair to let you know the kind of food you'll be eating. A …

The Mediterranean Grill Is Big On Flavor

Elie Harir's restaurant offers exotic spices expertly incorporated into traditional Mediterranean cuisine.

Tucked into a strip mall like falafel into a pita, The Mediterranean Grill is a gem of a restaurant designed to tantalize the palate with exotic flavors and spices. Located at 703 Long Road Crossing Dr., in a strip mall off Chesterfield Airport Road, the restaurant features dishes from a variety of Mediterranean cuisines such as hummus, kubbeh, shish kabab and souvlaki. The restaurant is the creation of Israeli-born Elie Harir. The son of Yemenite Jews is making his first foray into restaurant ownership, though he's been in the restaurant business for 20 years and operated a catering company. He knows opening a restaurant is a big step. “The reason I opened something was to be unique and different,” Harir said. “There is not this …

In Praise Of Krieger's, the Good Bar and Grill

Krieger's offers a well-rounded experience that's hard to beat.

The words "bar and grill" are attached to establishments on every other corner, it seems. Open a joint, serve beer and a fried burger, slap a "bar and grill" sign above the door and open for business. But what makes a good bar and grill? What separates the gristle from the meat? The answers are as varied as the customers who patronize the establishments, but there are several criteria that make a bar and grill a good one. First, a customer should feel comfortable and welcomed. Service should be attentive and the food better than average with a large selection and variety. There's gotta be a decent selection of beer available, and happy hour should feature great deals on drinks and food. Most importantly, prices need to be fair. These …
