'Manmade' Lake Drained for Repair

Sachs Properties owns the lot.

A body of water on Sachs Properties along Wild Horse Creek Road near the YMCA in Chesterfield has been emptied for shoring up one side against leaks. The manufactured lake, or pond, was part of the development of property at the corner of Chesterfeld Parkway and Airport Road. It filled with rain water over the years. But Chesterfield city officials said that a spot under the overflow dam on the far side of the lake was apparently always wet, as though water was leaking from the lake. After draining the lake/pond of water, treated clay will be spread on the inside to somewhat waterproof the spot, officials said. Viewfinder: Downtown Chesterfield Lake Is Stocked

Largemouth bass were added to the lake Thursday. In a few years, residents will be able to fish.

The Missouri Department of Conservation delivered one last shipment of fish to the lake at Chesterfield Parkway and Wild Horse Creek Road Thursday. The 17-acre lake has been stocked with catfish, bluegill and largemouth bass. Sachs Properties, which owns the lake, began stocking it last year through a grant program with the conservation department. In about three years, people will be able to fish at the lake.

Downtown Chesterfield's Fate Uncertain in Economic Downturn

Similar 'new urbanism' developments in St. Louis have met with varied fates.

Three years since Louis Sachs broke ground on Downtown Chesterfield, the development—which aims to bring an urban feel to suburban retail—is still in its initial phases, and could face challenges moving forward in economic conditions unkind to similar developments in the area. Located at Chesterfield Parkway West and Highway 40 within the 1,500-acre Chesterfield Village development, the project is still several steps away from completing its first phase, which includes the completed Central Park Square I office building, another office building and four buildings that could be used as restaurants or retail locations.
