See school closings here too.
Flurries remained Thursday morning after cold temperatures kept one-to-three inches of snow on the ground that dropped on Chesterfield and the St. Louis area overnight. End-of-the-year 2011 holidays were unseasonably warm, and did not present any snow for the storied White Christmas effect. But Thursday, Mother Nature turned cold. Here's Patch weather: UPDATE at top left corner of Patch homepage. Check here for any school closings. Email Patch any fun, pretty or dramatic snow photos, and we'll post them today. Or post them on your own to Patch Neighborhood Gallery, see the Gallery tab at the top of the Patch homepage.

Thursday was the third snow day both districts have taken this year.
Editor's note: Parkway School District has four snow days built into their calendar. A previous version of this story incorrectly reported the number of days. Snow days are wearing thin for both Parkway and Rockwood school districts. Thursday was the third day both districts canceled classes for inclement weather this school year. Rockwood School District officials built five days into this year's calendar for weather-related cancellations, so now have only two remaining as a cushion. "In the past, we added days on to the end of the year if we go past the five days," said Janet Strate, Rockwood board of education director. A stomach-churning, snow-day capped adventure takes the cheer out of holiday shopping.

And, like the flu, this virus was serious. The family drama began last weekend. The toddler had a few extra diaper changes, which I chalked up to a two-year molar fighting its way through the gums. My inner pediatrician didn't figure out the viral situation for a few days, when the toddler's diaper situation went from a few extra changes to just pure fury. Unfortunately, Dr. Mom had put off much of her holiday shopping until the week of diaper fury. And…

Make a snow angel or snowman? Let Chesterfield Patch know!
I'll admit it: I hate winter. When I woke up this morning and saw snow out my bedroom window, I promptly rolled back over, dove deeper under my comforter and went back to sleep. It's not that I don't think it's beautiful. It's just that for me, a snow day will always be an excuse to stay indoors under layers of blankets with a good book and a cup of hot tea. If you're more adventurous than me—or if your excited kids dragged you outdoors to play—we'd love to see your photos. Let us know what you're up to, whether its crafting snowmen, throwing snow balls or crossing your fingers for cancelled school tomorrow; e-mail your photos and captions to me at rachel.heaton@patch.com.

Kara, I agree! Funny thing, people can seem to get to the mall or to Hidden Valley.... the schools should be open if at all possible. Our students need that class time and snow days are just wasted time. In other countries, schools are open many more days than here in the States. That's one reason they're outperforming us.   more ›
