Parkway West Claims 12th State Swimming Title

The dramatic competition came down to one event: the 400-yard freestyle medley.

The Parkway West girls swimming team captured their record 12th state title at Saturday's 36th Girls Swimming and Diving MSHSAA Championships, which was held at the St. Peters Rec Plex. None could have been as dramatic as this one. Hannibal led the team title throughout the day. It came down to the final event, the 400-yard freestyle medley. Parkway West's first-year coach Allison Zeller laid it all on the line to her team of senior Morgan Chaney, sophomore Taylor Maurer, junior Kate Gately and senior Mary Beth Howard. "I think I put a little fire in them when I told them that they had to win it," Zeller said. "I didn't mention about the possible tie." The scenario was simple, win the race and win the team title. Marquette Wrestler Finishes Fifth in State Championships

A round up of how St. Louis-area high schools did in the state wrestling championships.

COLUMBIA, MO—Here's a round up of how Chesterfield-area schools, as well as other St. Louis area schools, did in the state wrestling championships: Parkway West (Class 2) finished tied for 32nd place with seven points. Marquette (Class 4) finished tied in 29th place with 20 points. Matthew Mosior finished in fifth place in the 160-pound weight class. Parkway Central (Class 3) finished tied for 35th place with six points. Class 1 Whitfield finished second overall with 147.5 points. Brookfield won the Class 1 championship with 186 points. Rodney Hahn looked dominant on his way to the 135-class state title. He defeated Brookfield’s Micah Blakely 11-3. Marquette, Parkway Central Wrestlers Still in State Championships

Parkway West is out, but Marquette wrestler has a chance to take third place and Parkway Central wrestler is still alive in the consolation bracket.

COLUMBIA—Day two of the 2011 Missouri Wrestling State Championships has come and gone. Only 112 of the 896 wrestlers that survived day one still have a shot to win a state title. Here’s a recap of how Chesterfield-area schools have done so far: Parkway Central (Class Three) – Tied for 35th place with six points. Jacob Didier won his last bout 7-5. He is still alive in the consolation bracket. Parkway West (Class Four) – Tied for 32nd place with seven points. No wrestlers left competing. Marquette (Class Four) – In 24th place with 18 points. Matthew Mosior is the only Marquette wrestler and he has a shot to earn third place.
