Cardinals player said he's humbled by huge statue of self in Westport Plaza.
First basemen Albert Pujols and his wife Deidre Pujols thanked swarms of Cardinals fans coming out to Westport Plaza Wednesday, where officials unveiled a bronze 10-foot, 1,100-pound statue of the baseball player about 11 a.m. "I don't even know what to say...," Pujols told the crowd, describing the experience as very humbling. The anonymously commissioned statue sits in front of Pujols 5 Grill, Pujol's restaurant. Pujols also talked about Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa's retirement. He said La Russa had been like a dad to him, and a mentor. Pujols said he will miss La Russa, yet wished him the best. Albert Pujols said he points to the sky every time he hits a home run to remind himself and others that he seeks to glorify God. That's the pose an anonymous donor selected for a 10-foot, 1,100 pound bronze sculpture. The donor commissioned artist Harry Weber for the sculpture. Hundreds of fans turned out to Westport Wednesday for the unveiling, attended by the Pujols family, Cardinals Hall of Famer Lou Brock, Weber and others. The event was emceed by KTRS' McGraw Milhaven. Westport Plaza is home to Pujols' restaurant, Pujols 5 Westport Grill, and the Pujols Family Foundation office.

The bigger-than-life bronze sculpture of El Hombre will go outside his restaurant, Maryland Heights-based Pujols 5. The Henry Weber artwork was paid for by an anonymous donor.
Albert Pujols will be staying in St. Louis—Maryland Heights, to be precise. At least, a 10-feet-tall, 1,100-pound bronze sculpture of the Cardinals All-Star first baseman will stay here in St. Louis County, at Westport Plaza. The massive statue will be unveiled at 11 a.m., Nov. 2 at Westport Plaza, the outside the Pujols 5 Sports Grill restaurant. Albert and Deirdre Pujols plan to attend the event, which is free and open to the public. However, they will not be available to answer questions. Pujols is a free agent at the end of the season. The event will be between the north entrance of Pujols 5 Westport Grill and the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel.
