A man eluded Chesterfield Police in a high-speed car chase after trying to steal a television from Walmart, only to be arrested later in Cahokia, IL. Darius Dean, 32, of East St. Louis, was charged Nov. 2 with felony stealing and resisting arrest, creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death. Chesterfield Police said Walmart security spotted Dean wheeling a box for a 32-inch screen TV into the store at 100 THF Boulevard at about 3:28 p.m. Nov. 1. The box was empty. He replaced it in the shopping cart with a 47-inch Vizio TV valued at $698 and walked out of the store. A houseguest in Chesterfield stole $5,000 from a woman’s bank account between Oct. 12 and Nov. 3, 2011, Chesterfield Police said. Austin Scherr, 25, of the 600 block of Broadmoor Drive in Chesterfield, was charged Friday with felony stealing. Police said Scherr was staying at the woman’s home in Chesterfield during the dates in question and had access to her debit card. Scherr was identified on video recordings making the unauthorized withdrawals at an ATM, police said. Bail was set at $5,000. An employee at a Chesterfield nursing home turned to the police after her thermometer disappeared from her desk for the second time. The nurse's aid had left the device on her desk on Oct. 12 and later noticed it missing, according to Chesterfield Police Department Officer Mike Ryffel. Ryffel said the employee wanted to file a report of larceny since it was the second time it had occurred. The nursing home is located in the 14000 block of N. Outer 40 Road. A Chesterfield business reported its phones stolen to the Chesterfield Police Department on Oct. 10, but it wasn't thieves who nabbed the devices. According to Officer Mike Ryffel, a local software company reported that several phones were taken at around noon from the desks in the company's office. A Chesterfield man faces criminal charges after police said he cut himself on a broken window during a burglary in Frontenac. The man also faces charges related to selling property stolen from a Town and Country home. Jeffrey Schwartz, of the 1200 block of Still House Creek Road in Chesterfield, was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and receiving stolen property. Frontenac Police said Schwartz broke a window in a home in the first block of Portland Avenue and climbed in the house. He fled before stealing anything, but cut himself on the broken window, leaving blood behind, according to a Frontenac Police report. Police said he was identified by a DNA match. The Chesterfield Police Department has charged a 28-year-old female with larceny for allgedly taking a watch from a residence while she was working there as a caregiver. The watch was valued at more than $500 and took place at a residence in the 14000 block of Amberleigh Hill Court. A man was charged Wednesday with stealing from the Chesterfield Walmart at 100 THF Blvd. Maurice Cooley, 50, of Glasgow Village, is charged with his third stealing-related offense within 10 years, a class D felony. Chesterfield Police said that on Feb. 22, Cooley attempted to steal three digital compasses, two cyclocomputers and two cell phone cases. Previously, he was convicted of two separate stealing related offenses in 2005 in St. Charles County and Des Peres. Bond was set at $5,000.
