Compare shrimp tempura rolls from three West County restaurants!

The roll can be made with the rice inside or outside and is filled with shrimp and most commonly slices of avocado and cucumber. The frying can come in the form of shrimp tempura inside or deep frying the entire roll. Tempura refers to seafood or vegetables that have been battered and fried. Shrimp tempura rolls have a sweet, savory and creamy taste and texture that is freshened by the cucumber, avocado and the usual accompaniments of pickled ginger and wasabi. Wasabi Sushi Bar 1066 Town and Country Crossing Dr., Town and Country Wasabi Sushi Bar, the sixth of a chain of restaurants, has a modern flair. A steady stream …

We're comparing tacos from three different local eateries, and who has the best?
There is something addictive about tacos al pastor—the small tortillas filled with crispy marinated pork, pineapple, spicy red salsa, onions, cilantro and lime. Street vendors in Mexico sell hundreds of these every night. Tacos al pastor are made by marinating the pork in a varying amounts of orange, lime and pineapple juice, dried chiles and spices. Cooks have their own variation for the marinade. The pork (sliced in thin steaks) is then cooked on a vertical spit or vertical roaster with a pineapple on top. As the pork and pineapple cook, the juice of the pineapple glazes the pork. The meat is then sliced off in thin strips and served in corn tortillas with pieces of pineapple. The tacos are served with a spicy green or red salsa, …

After visiting several West County restaurants, our chef came up with a great recipe for eggplant parmigiana, do-it-yourself.
Traveling around Chesterfield, Town and Country, and other West County areas testing dishes for Patch Food Fight! articles, I learned a few things. Gianfabio's Italian Cafe, The Pasta House and Candicci's each presented different ingredients and techniques to make a great eggplant parmigiana. In order to develop the sweet, nutty and complex flavor of eggplant, it needs to be cooked. There are several varieties of eggplant—from the pear-shaped, deep purplelish-black to the lavender colored, long cucumber-shaped variety. Eggplant is a fruit, botanically classified as a berry. The soft seeds in the flesh are edible, but somewhat bitter. As a result, it is important to choose a young eggplant with smooth skin and minimal bruising—the older the…

GOP state rep scrambled to revise it when teachers got a court injunction to halt the previous version.
While Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is not indicating whether he'll sign a revised social networking bill this week, the GOP-sponsored bill is now on his desk. Approval of the bill could mean public school teachers and administrators would be banned from communicating with students through Facebook—a ubiquitous means of communication. As previously reported by Patch, revisions to the Amy Hestir Student Protection Act were making its way through the General Assembly last week. Friday, the revised bill finally made its way out of the state House and Senate. Last month, Patch reported on the controversy and confusion surrounding Senate Bill 54, sponsored by Missouri State Sen. Jane Cunningham (R-Chesterfield.) She is a former Ladue school board …
