Multiple Accidents Bring Traffic to a Standstill on I-64/Highway 40

Accidents in both directions have resulted in lane closures around the area where I-64, I-270 and Route 141 converge.

Traffic is extremely slow or altogether at a stop on sections of Highway 40/Interstate 64 near Highway 141 and I-270 due to accidents in both directions that have several lanes closed. Emergency crews are currently working to clear two accidents, one in the eastbound lanes at Woodsmill Drive and one westbound at Maryville Center Drive, both of which have closed multiple lanes, said MoDOT Community Relations Coordinator Linda Wilson Horn. There is no clear time frame for when the lanes will be re-opened.  Horn said traffic maps for the area around where I-64, I-270 and 141 converge are "almost all red and yellow," indicating that vehicles are moving very slowly.  Police officials also said the interstate is experiencing significant issues…

I know the weather was bad, true, but everybody here goes way over the speed limit and they tailgate all the time, it's no wonder the volume of accidents, they will just have to learn the hard way.   more ›

Backups on 141 Likely Due to Blanchette Bridge Work

With the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge set to close this weekend, it's likely some drivers will use Highway 141 as an alternate route.

Preparation has already began for a major overhaul of the Blanchette Bridge and the Missouri Department of Transporatation is predicting will cause major traffic disruptions for Chesterfield drivers when the one half of the bridge is completely closed this weekend.  Instead of five lanes in either direction, drivers will be shifted over to the eastbound bridge, which itself will be split into three narrow lanes in each direction, while the westbound structure receives a $63 million overhaul.  "We are doing major rehabilitation work," said MoDOT spokesperson Linda Wilson Horn. "We are tearing 75 percent of it off and hope to be done by Fall 2013." MoDOT is asking drivers to seek alternate routes, including traveling south on Route 141 …
