A senior at Parkway Central, Maura Madinger is a finalist in the "Frame My Future" scholarship contest and will attend the University of Missouri this fall.
A Chesterfield high school senior and soon-to-be Mizzou Tiger needs your help to win a $1,000 scholarship. Maura Madinger attends Parkway Central High School and is a finalist in the “Frame My Future” scholarship contest sponsored by Church Hill Classics, a company that specializes in framing diplomas and other recognitions. To enter, Madinger had to create an original image (see the photo accompanying this article) that represented what she wants to achieve in her personal and professional life after college. Madinger, who is attending the University of Missouri this fall, blogged about her piece on Chesterfield Patch and wrote that she is planning to major in photojournalism and hopes to travel in her studies and career. "As a …

February 6 is the first day high school seniors can confirm their college choices. The University of Missouri, Ohio State and Oklahoma State are among the NCAA schools looking to St. Louis for recruits.

The Tigers' coach will look to return the team to bowl-caliber form next season.
The Columbia Daily Tribune is reporting that University of Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel will return to the Tiger sidelines in 2013. After an injury-riddled season that robbed the team of a consistent offensive line and quarterback play in Mizzou's 5-7 first season in the Southeastern Conference, Athletic Director Mike Alden told the paper Pinkel would return next fall. The Tigers will not play in a postseason bowl game for the first time since 2004. Pinkel is scheduled to review the 2012 season and look ahead to next season with reporters Tuesday morning, after a flurry of uninformed speculation had rumors flying he would resign Monday. Keeping the current Tiger coaching staff has implications for several St. Louis area Senior …

The University of Missouri-themed store quietly opened Aug. 29, but with a new sign installed Wednesday, it's set for a grand opening next Thursday.
It's probably a lament often heard in Mizzou Nation: Where can I lay my hands on a bottle opener that plays "Fight Tigers" when I pop the top of my brew? The answer is here at last. The Mizzou Store opened quietly in the Chesterfield Valley on Aug. 29, but has its official grand opening next week. And if you visit the store at 10 THF Boulevard, near the eastern end of the massive retail strip mall off of Highway 40, prepare yourself: You might overload on black and gold. There are T-shirts and sweatshirts, bottle cozys and blankets. There is even that bottle opener we mentioned earlier. "I think that's pretty crazy. That makes me laugh," said Michelle Froese, spokesman for The Mizzou Store. "We also have grill accessories so you can brand…

How Missouri legislators got it wrong: Denying Kansas the opportunity to pay into Missouri's highway maintenance fund.
For some time I have been an avowed socialist when it comes to Missouri license plates. Having been a cop for 30 years, I believe license plates should be kept simple. Their purpose is to identify motor vehicles and show taxes have been paid—not to show your social status. Special license plates for the rich, or friends of the governor, or people who want to advertise their colleges, fraternal groups or branches of the service, just make things confusing for cops and the public who are trying to report suspicious cars. So I think everyone should get the same style license plate. But I’m also apparently in the minority. There are 187 different specialty license plates issued in Missouri. However, the idea behind the specialty license …

Five University of Missouri athletic teams will wear new Nike uniforms next season in an attempt to appeal to potential recruits.
The University of Missouri football Tigers held the annual "Black and Gold" scrimmage over the weekend at Faurot Field, but the reason why many in the crowd of roughly 18,000 showed up for spring practice had little to do with what was happening between the tackles Saturday. Of greater interest was the chance to get a look at what the Tigers will WEAR from sideline to sideline starting next fall. After months of hype, the school unveiled uniforms for the football squad along with new threads for both basketball teams, soccer and volleyball. Photo/Video Gallery From The MU Athletic Department The fashion statement comes as the school makes the move from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference, and as athletic department officials told …

Tigers basketball coach Frank Haith was at Harpo's to talk about his plans.
New University of Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith arrived late to Harpo's Friday afternoon because of traffic, but no one seemed to mind. The patio was full of the Tiger faithful by the time he got there. Haith was first grabbed for an interview, then went into the crowd, shaking hands and signing autographs. The Mizzou fight song rang through the bar as Haith went inside, followed by Mizzou staffer and broadcaster Gary Link. The new coach has been on a tour of the state, meeting fans and talking about his goals for the upcoming season. He told the gathered crowd the experienced team is adapting to the coaching change. Haith was hired in April. He replaced Mike Anderson, who left Mizzou for the University of Arkansas. Haith said …
