Tony La Russa Is Outta Here; Now Pujols?
Cardinals manager goes out with a ring.
St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa announced his retirement Monday, fresh off a third World Series championship as a big league skipper, and 16 years with the Cardinals. No word yet on what Cards first-baseman Albert Pujols may or may not do next season. As MLB.com reported, La Russa leaves the game as the winningest manager in team history and third most in major league baseball history. "It feels like its time to end it," La Russa said in a press conference Monday morning which was broadcast online. La Russa, 67, has typically re-evaluated his status over the past few offseasons and said he came to the decision in late August. For St. Louis sports fans, the decision has some echoes of the move made by the Rams Dick Vermeil. …

By Vermeil "retirement" I think you mean run outta Dodge, Rams were tripping over themselves to get Martz in place, which was a collosal failure. I think if the Cards lost, they would have forced LaRussa out in the same fashion as Vermeil, i.e., second guessing the botched stolen base, keeping Jay and Holiday in the line up, etc..
