Chesterfield Approves $361,000 in Improvements for City Parks

The expenditures encompass six projects at three facilities and include new signage, bleacher covers and a VIP deck at the amphitheater.

Parks in the city of Chesterfield are set to receive a raft of improvements this spring after the city council approved approximately $361,000 in upgrades last week. The funds will pay for a list of projects at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex, Chesterfield Central Park and the city’s amphitheater: Parks Director Tom McCarthy said he was happy to receive the “thumbs up” from the city council to get started. “It’s great. These are things that we have wanted to do for a long time,” he said. One of the larger expenditures, the $75,000 bridge is an item that McCarthy is particularly glad to see approved. It will be constructed over the spillway at the northern edge of the park, completing a loop around the pond, and likely be finished …

Chesterfield’s Got Talent

More than 60 acts took the stage on Saturday at the new amphitheater in Central Park for Talent Bash.

The new Central Park amphitheater was all about showmanship on Saturday, ranging from music to dance to comedy to magic for a new event called Talent Bash. Talent Bash organizer Frank Schmer said his group has been planning the event for nearly four months. “It was important to us that the event was live, local and inclusive, and there’s a lot of talent in the area,” Schmer said. “The amphitheatre is a great venue--how many kids get the chance to perform in a seven million dollar facility?” The six-hour show was divided into eight sets that represented a variety of ages and acts. A rotating panel of judges from KTRS, Chesterfield Arts and West News Magazine provided positive feedback for all the performers. Family, friends, coaches and …

Amphitheater Opening: Schedule of Events, Where to Park

An all-day free event will be held to celebrate the amphitheater opening Saturday at Central Park.

If you haven't heard yet, there's a big party going on Saturday at Chesterfield Central Park. A really big one. It's planned to celebrate the opening of one really big thing, the city's new amphitheater, and it's called "Celebrate Central Park." There will be plenty of stuff to keep the kids busy—amublance and fire truck tours, inflatable bounce houses, magicians, jugglers, crafts and more. Bring a bit of cash because there's going to be lots of food, including Charlie Gitto's, Surf Dogs Grill, Popcorn Palace. Mike Geisel, the Chesterfield director of parks and recreation, said everyone is welcome to bring a picnic, too, as long as there's no glass. Geisel said there will be a scavenger hunt that encourages families to explore the new …

Take a Walk Around Riparian Trail, Chesterfield's Amphitheater

Several big city projects are just about done at Chesterfield Central Park and the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex. Take a peek!

It's a big year for Chesterfield parks. Several projects that have been in the works for years will be completed in the next few months. The city's dog park at Eberwein Park should open by the end of summer. Planned improvements, including new fields and concession stands, at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex are being wrapped up as little leaguers start to hit the fields. Down at Central Park, things are hopping, too. The first phase of the Riparian Trail, near Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center, is weeks away from completion. Plus, in case you haven't heard, the amphitheater and the nearby path around the lake will be complete in time for a big grand opening bash on May 21.  It's more than enough to seem daunting, but Mike Geisel…

Council OKs Zoning Change for Adult Day Care

In a brief meeting Wednesday, city council approved a zoning change that will allow an adult day care center to open in Chesterfield and several construction bids.

Plans for an adult day care center in Chesterfield can move ahead now that city council has approved a zoning change.  The change, which was unanimously approved, allows day care facilities in the Four Seasons development at the corner of River Valley Drive and Olive Boulevard. Lutheran Adult Day Services plans to get a building permit to refurbish the interior of what used to be Denmark Travel and turn it into a day care service.  Art Sommer, owner of Lutheran Adult Day Services, said he hopes to open the day care in April. He previously told Patch plans for the facility include installing a sports bar and an outdoor patio. The aim is for the center to feel more like a country club than a nursing home.  City council also unanimously …
