The latest report from the Chesterfield police shows 17 credit card fraud cases in a week's time.
Just a few days after Schnucks supermarkets announced that it had found and contained the cause of a breach in customers' credit card information, the fallout is still showing up in police reports, according to Chesterfield police. In the latest round of police incidents from the week of March 27 through April 2, police reported 17 incidents involving fraudulent credit card purchases. "We have had an increase in fraud reports these past few weeks," said Chesterfield police spokesman Officer Mike Ryffel. "We believe the increase is due to the Schnucks security breach." Chesterfield Police are investigating the case in which a woman used stolen cards to make charges at Target stores in Chesterfield, St. Charles County and Bridgeton.
Chesterfield Police are looking for a woman who is believed to have used stolen credit cards to buy thousands of dollars’ worth of gift cards and make other charges at Target stores in Chesterfield and throughout the St. Louis area. The suspect is thought to be behind two separate incidents, according to police. The first occurred on Dec. 22, 2012, when an individual eating at a Chesterfield area restaurant had three credit cards stolen from her purse. Chesterfield Lt. Michael Thompson said these cards were later used at the Chesterfield Target store for more than $7,000 in cash advances. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying someone who used a stolen credit card Saturday at the CVS Pharmacy located at 15846 Manchester Rd., in Ellisville. The suspect is a tall man with close-cropped dark hair, shown wearing a blue- or purple-and-green horizontally striped shirt with dark pants or what appear to be knee-length shorts. Police said the suspect used the stolen credit card to buy more than $412 worth of goods. Police said the same stolen credit was used Sunday to purchase goods at a Walgreens in Ballwin. The man is suspected of stealing a purse and using the victim's credit card and checks to pay for purchases at Toys R Us and a grocery store.
Chesterfield Police are seeking a man suspected of stealing a purse and using the victim's credit card and checks. The man is wanted for theft, credit card fraud and forgery. The victim's purse was stolen at Trader Joe's from an employee area in the back of the store on Feb. 4. The suspect went to Toys R Us and purchased a Wii gaming system. Then, he went to the nearby Dierberg's and used one of the victim's checks to pay for his purchase as well as obtain cash back. Anyone with information about the suspect should call the Chesterfield Police Detective Bureau at 636-537-3000. Updated 1:43 p.m. with date of the incident and name of the grocery store.
