The mix of snow, sleet and ice hitting the St. Louis area has forced dozens of cancellations at Lambert International Airport, including all American Airlines flights in or out of the city after 3 p.m. More than 40 arrivals and 40 departures had been cancelled by 8:30 a.m., according to the airport’s blog, and a check of online flight information at 11:10 a.m. showed that number had risen to more than 160 total cancelled flights. Inclement weather caused a commercial airplane to land at Spirit of St. Louis airport in Chesterfield. A spokesperson for the airport tells Patch they are always prepared for that type of situations.
Last Sunday, Southwest flight 3789 was coming from Denver to St. Louis and was due to arrive at Lambert International Airport at approximately 7 p.m.. The pilot of the plane circled the sky for a while as rain and thunderstorms passed through the area. Visibility was not good. His airplane was burning fuel. As a preventive measure, the pilot of the Boeign 737 plane, with 137 passengers aboard, decided to land at Spirit of St. Louis airport in Chesterfield instead of Lambert. All passengers were safe. Some were transported by bus, others were picked up by friends or family. “Kudos to a Southwest team who made the best of a bad situation. It's why they are the best in the business,” tweeted Virginia McDowell, a passenger in the airplane. …

The pilot of the Southwest flight decided to land there due to the weather conditions. No one was injured.
A Boeing 737 with 130 passengers made an emergency landing at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield Sunday evening, KSDK reports. The flight from Southwest Airlines was traveling from Denver to St. Louis and was expected to arrive at Lambert International Airport at approximately 7 p.m.. The pilots of the flight decided to land at Spirit of St. Louis after circling in the air for a while. No passengers aboard the plane were injured nor were any other flights forced to land due to weather conditions. Passengers were transported by bus from Spirit of St. Louis to Lambert, according to KSDK. Missouri lawmakers made sure you can get liquor at the airport at 4am, but nothing is open.
The Missouri legislature failed to do anything about strengthening state ethics laws, or act on distracted driving with cell phones and texting. Or clean up the Missouri Employers Mutual insurance mess, by getting out of the insurance business. No, lawmakers didn’t do any of that. But legislators were on top of this important issue: The inability to buy liquor at St. Louis-Lambert International Airport at 4am. Yes, they changed the state liquor laws so you can buy a drink at the airport at 4am. In the past, you had to wait until 6am to buy a drink.
