MoDOT Plan Calls for Traffic-Relieving Improvements for Route 141

Three separate projects are listed as part of the department's Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for 2014-2018.

Frustrated by traffic jams during rush hour as you try to travel past Highway 40/I-6 on Route 141? The Missouri Department of Transportation is hoping to add improvements over the next several years that might alleviate some of the issues. The projects are part of the department’s $700 million Statewide Transportation Improvement Pogram (STIP) for 2014-2018, a draft of which is available online. Route 141 Pavement Test Reportedly Bewilders Researchers

According to West News Magazine, researchers are "baffled" by air quality results from an experimental section of Route 141.

According to an article in West News Magazine, researchers with Iowa State University’s National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (NCPTC) are "baffled" by air quality results from the new southbound Route 141. The article explains that a 1,500-foot stretch of the road, south of Olive Boulevard, is actually an experiment. It was reportedly topped with a 2-inch layer of concrete mixed with titanium dioxide which would ultimately improve air quality in that area. West News stated that the Route 141 pavement experiment added $130,000 to the cost of the project and is believed to be the first U.S. location for testing such a smog-alleviating concept.  (Read West News article here.) Initial results reportedly showed a significant impact in …

"Hopefully when enjoying the benefits of less traffic on the new road, all the anti-Obama/gov't folks will remember it was Obama's Shovel Ready Program that finally got this previously unfunded job done years ahead of projected timetable." True, but on 3% of the money went to project like this one. It's a shame polititians can't see the benefit in improving more of the major roadways and bridges …   more ›

Feds 'Stimulus' Money Pays For New Roads In West County

New Page-Olive connector at Route 141 set to open July 1.

Trips from West County to Page Avenue and the Maryland Heights Expressway should go more smoothly after July 1. That’s when the new Route 141, between Ladue Road and Olive Boulevard, and the Page-Olive Connector, between Olive and the Maryland Heights Expressway, are scheduled for completion. Work is on track for both. The Page-Olive Connector is a $52 million project, the largest in St. Louis County history. Federal stimulus funds will cover $20 million of that amount. The remainder is from St. Louis County and the City of Maryland Heights. The section from Ladue Road to Olive has a total cost of $80 million, which includes $35 million to purchase the right-of-way to build. It’s being funded using stimulus money. The new highways, located…

Three More Weeks of Construction on Woods Mill, Hwy 141 and Ladue Road

If all goes as planned, three big traffic shifts happen Nov. 22.

In three weeks, on Nov. 22, anyone who drives Woods Mill-Highway 141 between Conway Road and Olive Boulevard, or Ladue Road at the 141 intersection should see a change, and feel relief that heavy construction may be over. MoDOT believes new bypasses and links among the old and new roads will open up for traffic.  “In a perfect world, at the exact same time,” according to MoDOT Resident Engineer Jesse Jonas, three things will happen Nov. 22—a Tuesday. “This is where it gets crazy. A lot happens then,”  Jonas said. When those three things happen, traffic will be in the configuration it will be in for most of the duration of the rest of the project. Shifting north-south traffic onto the new Route 141 will allow the rest of the Ladue Road …
