Chesterfield Gets a Look at Wendy's Restaurant Design

City planners unanimous on eatery coming to Chesterfield Valley.

Plans for Wendy's "Old-Fashioned Hamburgers" in Chesterfield Valley got a unanimous thumbs-up vote Monday from the city's Planning Commission, 7-0.

The Wendy's location would be on the north side of Chesterfield Airport Road at the Arnage traffic light—one-half mile west of Boone's Crossing. A new Valvoline oil change shop is planned next door to Wendy's, just west of it.

Wendy's has a a little over one acre in the Valley, and would build a 3,493-square-foot facility with parking, drive-thru and 33-feet tall lights in the parking lot. See renderings included here.

The corporate offices for The Wendy's Company recently moved from Atlanta to Dublin, Ohio, after announcing the plans nearly a year ago. Some 600 employees  

This would be the only Wendy's in Chesterfield currently. It was not immediately clear if this would be the first Wendy's in the city's 24-year history.

Chesterfield recently saw open near . Three Guys hamburger eatery recently shut down in nearby Town and Country.

Another Wendy's is slated for the City of Manchester, at the corner of Manchester Road and Seven Trails Drive/Reis Road.

A Wendy's closed on Watson Road in Crestwood some two years ago, with residents asking where it might re-open. The design of the Chesterfield Wendy's looks quite different from the one abandoned in Crestwood (see photo included here.)

The Wendy's hamburger was initially noted for its square patty in 1969, with Founder Dave Thomas pointing to the shape and saying: "We don't cut corners on quality." Thomas named the chain after his daughter Wendy Thomas.

Wendy's was later the first fast-food chain to offer a self-serve salad bar, which while met with skepticism at first, spawned a trend throughout the industry.
